Ibis?

While out strolling with one of our dogs< I happened to notice a flock of birds. They looked like black Ibis, I always thought Ibis were white, except for the young ones. I will have to check that out.
Continuation of the park that use to be a dump-
The picture was taken at a nearby park, this park, the one that use to be a dump. It has been turned into a beautiful park, with playgrounds, kite flying, a horse corral & trail, model airplane strip, even the people that fly those one seated, little motor, wing thingies that fly strip.

Jerry calls me a "button pusher" While fooling around with my new purse size camera, it took on a mind of its own=it shot this photo all by itself. Think it's trying to tell me something, like clean up this stuff. The painting on the wall is something I did awhile back, it is called "Moo Cow" the little fish painting I did about a month ago and framed it with a wooden ruler.

Wanted to post a photo on the other blog but the computer has a mind of its own too, go figure.

This weekend Jer is showing some of his stuff at a wine and food thingy in West Palm Beach. Nice part is that it's going to be inside and we will probably use only the pedestals. :) Of course it has wine and food and that is another plus.

New Camera-testing testing

I love my Sony Cyber-Shot 12x etc. etc. but it is too big for my purse! Went out today and bought a small Sony 7x zoom to carry at all times.
This last weekend we took a trip to Punta Gorda for a car event, took some pictures with my cell phone, not the same.
I took this photo to test out my new camera, one of my self portrait paintings.

Creative

The weather here is going to be rainy and stormy, have to stay inside, so I thought I would set the mood to get creative= good smelling candles, the smell of rain, surrounded by neat stuff, OK, need to create a masterpiece.
The following is one of my favorite poems that really inspires me-
By Javan
WE ARE BORN INTO THE WORLD
LIKE A BLANK CANVAS
& EACH PERSON THAT CROSSES OUR PATH
TAKES UP THE BRUSH
& MAKES HIS MARK UPON OUR SURFACE
SO IT IS THAT WE DEVELOP
BUT WE MUST REALIZE THERE COMES A DAY
THAT WE MUST TAKE UP THE BRUSH
& FINISH THE WORK
FOR ONLY WE CAN DETERMINE
IF WE ARE TO BE
JUST ANOTHER PAINTING
OR A MASTERPIECE.

Imagination!

I wanted to post a better photo of this painting but my computer has a mind of its own, maybe that is for the best.
This painting is called "Eggplant Parmesan" While I was fooling around with a self portrait, I noticed eggplant and a tomato coming out of a shopping bag. Figured I would get out my old dried up paints and paint a little bit each day. I have a new kitchen, ya know, and now it is one of my favorite rooms. (did I just say that)!

Wedding

Jerry and I just celebrated our anniversary last month, lota years. Had the reception in our back yard, a beautiful windy day in February. Jerry was in the service at the time, so had to plan the wedding around him being home.
L-R My brother, father, sister, Jerry, me, Mother, grandmother and my grandfather. Still have the dress, size nothing and the veil I made myself, Corny. The train on the dress was so beautiful that I was wanting to come down the isle backwards. The train was the reason that I bought a short sleeve dress for a Feb. wedding, what was I thinking!!!!!! The day was windy and a bit chilly, I was told.

Flowering Tea

Flowering Tea-My mother always had fresh flowers in the house, I don't know how she did it, I don't remember one day without flowers in the house. Now with the tea balls I can too.
I was reading a blog this morning about what to do with old glass jars, interesting.

Happy Anniversary Jerry-

Some of the family over the years!
Today is our anniversary. Last night we went to a wine event for a pre anniversary celebration- Marc Mondavi gave a run down on his family, we tasted 6 or 7 different wines, all very good. We bought a bottle which Marc Mondavi signed, a nice evening.

1st in Wood

As I wrote on our other blog, Jerry won 1st place in the wood category, out of 20 very good artist. He was so surprised.

I wanted to display his ribbon where our visitors would notice, think they'll will?

He won a blue ribbon
in a very special show
Sold some nice pieces
and was given the dough
He was so surprised that he won such a prize
and also had some nice buys
They brought out the trumpets
put a blue flag on top of our booth
and gave him the loot.

Raining Cats & Dogs

Not a clear day
no sun is in sight

It is raining and raining, outside is a fright
cars are a stalling
now where is the canoe

The dogs are barking and want to go out

but can't find their booties and raincoats that match

I am not complaining, we need the rain

so glad it's not snowing, instead the rain is flowing

Glad to live in Florida and not North Dakota

Civil War photographs

This is a very large file. It took a long time to open. Once you get it open, you can put your mouse on a picture and there will be a caption. Or you can double click on it and the picture will be enlarged. Be patient. Well worth your time! The second link is priceless..

Woodpecker

Took this picture on Sunday when we had all those birds in the tree.

It's cold out this morning, 60 degrees out back, seems colder and looks like it is going to snow. Even Birdie, our African Grey parrot thinks it is cold. As I came in from out back- she says, "It's cold out there" she is right, had to turn the heat back on. Yesterday was a picture perfect day, never know.

For the Birds

What a productive day it was yesterday. We are finishing up the kitchen, still have to paint. I did some much needed weeding. The end of the day we had the birds fly in. Birds everywhere, it was kidda strange, thought maybe they were trying to tell us something. I guess they were just saying, it's warmer, hot diggity dog lips!

The Legend of the spring

Visited Andersonville prison - My mother always told the story of her, I think it was her Great Grandfather, was in the Andersonville prison and when he came home he was so weak that he died. I have always wanted to visit and finally did. Very emotional, especially the POW museum, with videos, photos etc.

Photo 2 - The legend-the prisoners had little water and what they did have was contaminated, one night there was a very bad storm and lightning hit the ground and water started to flow from an underground spring.
Photo 1-This picture, the soldiers graves are further apart than the Civil War Prisoners. The prisoners were placed shoulder to shoulder.

Kitchen

Starting to get excited about the kitchen, not really liking the dust and all the insulation in the attic, that is now all over the house. Went to Home Depot and pick up some paint samples, to much to choose from. Lovin color but really like the neutrals, we will see. I can't go to overboard, Jerry is finally use to the Bougainvillea and mustard in the bedroom and the lavender and green in the studio.

Motley Crowd tis is- Thanksgiving 2008
-Before Hurricane Wilma, we always had our gatherings outside-We had a screened in patio, never rained, always beautiful weather. Things change, but they somehow remain the same. We are redoing our kitchen, I am busy unpacking cupboards, going to be so different. Thanksgiving won't be at our house this year. Gonna miss this old kitchen.

Thanks for the Memories-
My Thanksgiving Poem

While packing up our things
thought it will never be the same
so much fuss, so much stuff

Memories in the plates, for goodness sakes
Mother, we miss your apple pie
and Mom your pecan pies
and the family ties
Grandma Zieman's rolls
never taste the same
but we'll keep on trying

Sometimes we take for granted
what we have been granted
Grown up too fast
but what a blast

Aluminium foil
Tupperware that sometimes disappeared
and then reappears next year
family together, some gone forever
but yet right there, in some dish that we have prepared
Generation after generation
marriages and kids
The family tradition
wouldn't trade it for a thing

Going to miss this old Kitchen
with all it's broken things
we'll have a new kitchen to
gather in once again.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Flamingo

I really don't think a person can take a bad picture of the Flamingo. They are so BEAUTIFUL! The date doesn't do much for the photo, but a least it matches and she looks like she doesn't mind. I am so fortunate to live near an aviary with such wonderful birds. (the Flamingo aren't in the aviary, there not going anywhere. The black birds got in during hurricane Wilma and they won't leave. The ones on the outside are really trying hard to get in.

Subject: Fw: CRABBY OLD MAN

Has a message for all of us...PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ.

---
CRABBY OLD MAN When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in North Platte, Nebraska, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value .Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions, They found this poem . Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital .One nurse took her copy to Missouri . The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas edition of the News Magazine of the St. Louis Association for Mental Health A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem. And this little old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the Internet.Crabby Old ManWhat do you see nurses? . .. . What do you see? What are you thinking . . . . . when you're looking at me?A crabby old man, . ... . . . . not very wise,Uncertain of habit .. . . . . . .with faraway eyes?Who dribbles his food . . .. . .and makes no reply .When you say in a loud voice ..'I do wish you'd try!' Who seems not to notice . . . .the things that you do ..And forever is losing . . . . . . A sock or shoe?Who, resisting or not . . . . . lets you do as you will,With bathing and feeding . . . .The long day to fill? Is that what you're thinking?. . Is that what you see? Then open your eyes, nurse . . .you're not looking at me ..I'll tell you who I am . . . . . . As I sit here so still,As I do at your bidding, .. . . . .as I eat at your will. I'm a small child of Ten .. . . .with a father and mother,Brothers and sisters . . . . .. . . w ho love one another.A young boy of Sixteen . . . . . with wings on his feetDreaming that soon now . . . . . a lover he'll meet.. A groom soon at Twenty . . . . .my heart gives a leap.Remembering, the vows . . . . ..that I promised to keep.At Twenty-Five, now . . . . . . . I have young of my own.Who need me to guide . . . . . .And a secure happy home. A man of Thirty . . . . .. . . . . My young now grown fast,Bound to each other . . . . . . . .With ties that should last.At Forty, my young sons .. . . . have grown and are gone,But my woman's beside me. . . . to see I don't mourn. At Fifty, once more, . . . . . . . babies play 'round my knee,Again, we know children . . . . . My loved one and me.Dark days are upon me . . . . .. .my wife is now dead.I look at the future ... . . . . . shudder with dread..
For my young are all rearing . .. young of their own.And I think of the years . . . . and the love that I've known.I'm now an old man . . . . . . . . and nature is cruel.Tis jest to make old age . . . . . look like a fool. The body, it crumbles . . . . . . grace and vigor, depart.There is now a stone . . . . . . where I once had a heart.But inside this old carcass . . . . a young guy still dwells,And now and again . . . .. . . . . my battered heart swells. I remember the joys . . . . . . . I remember the pain.And I'm loving and living. . . . . life over again.I think of the years, . . . . . . ..all too few gone too fast.And accept the stark fact . . . that nothing can last. So open your eyes, people. . . . open and see.Not a crabby old man. . . . . . . Look closer . . . . see ME!!Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul within . . . . we will all, one day, be there, too! PLEASE SHARE THIS POEMThe best and most beautiful things of this world can't be seen or touched. They must be felt by the heart.
God Bless All who read this Poem and send it to those on "YOUR" mailing list

Flamingo

Whose feet are those
I do not know
Too big to be mine.
And the toes
whose are those
only three.
That could not be
Lets look again
Oooooh!!! they belong to meeeee!

Who That Bee?

Who that be over there
What do I see
Is it a Bee
Bothering Me

Or maybe a flying Bat
What would you think of that
Of course that could not Bee
the thing that I see

Maybe a Humming Bird
That would be neat to see
Whatever it is
I wonder what it thinks of Me!

Another Exercise

Another Exercise-

While I was looking for something, I found something else, (easily distracted) An excersie that I did many years ago, a painting out of a collage.
The figure on the right was a quick collage I did on orange construction paper, taking stuff out of magazines, my first attempt at collage. It was so much fun that I figured that I would do a painting of the collage, taking white watercolor paper, add a few more touches and woola. (watercolor and gouache) It was fun to do.
I can see with this photo I could darken some of the shadows, maybe, nay!
Of course, I didn't find what I was looking for because posting this was more fun.

Everglades Blackbirds II

Some more stuff. Yesterdays painting, had a little Asian flair, sooooooooo, I wanted to show off this piece that I bought years ago at an antique show. It is wood and has the characters names below their faces. I'm thinking it might be from a play. I love it, looks like black Birdie does too, or maybe that's the director, go figure.

Today I am going to start my 2nd painting "Crows that hang out in the Everglades" , maybe I will make it alittle funky.

Everglades Blackbird

Just finished up my bird painting, watercolor and a little bit of colored crayon for highlights.
How do you like the way I signed my name, hope it is correct. The painting looks somewhat Asian, simple, well as simple as I can make it. I like to use patterning, maybe the next one.
Since I am not going to be attending the workshop, I have to stop feeling sorry for myself and do some paintings. So here it goes, my first of my series of everglade birds, hope it won't be the last.

Hungry Raccoon

These shots were taken at a car event we attended last weekend. The little fellow would take the dog food and douse the food in the water.

Wikipedia - Dousing

Captive raccoons often douse their food before eating.
Raccoons sample food and other objects with their front paws to examine them and to remove unwanted parts. The tactile sensitivity of their paws is increased if this action is performed underwater, since the water softens the horny layer covering the paws.[86] However, the behavior observed in captive raccoons in which they carry their food to a watering hole to "wash" or douse it before eating has not been observed in the wild.[87] Naturalist Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1707–1788) believed that raccoons do not have adequate saliva production to moisten food, necessitating dousing, but this is certainly incorrect.[88] Captive raccoons douse their food more frequently when a watering hole with a layout similar to a stream is not farther away than 3.0 m (9.8 ft).[89] The widely accepted theory is that dousing is a vacuum activity imitating foraging at shores for aquatic foods.[90] This is supported by the observation that such foods are doused more frequently. Cleaning dirty food does not seem to be a reason for "washing".[89] Experts have cast doubt on the veracity of observations of wild raccoons dousing food.[91]

For the Birds

The top photo-was taken Friday, not a very good photo, but I thought it told a story about the weather. When I bought out the peanuts, it was a different story, they were almost eating out of my hand. The bottom photo was taken from the inside out.

I just started following Abe Lincolns http://mybirdsblog.blogspot.com/ with his amazing bird photos, WoW. He inspired me so much that I actually started my blackbird series last night. Haven't shared those photos yet, thought I would go over the steps, maybe, to the finish. The post might be on the second Thursday of the week.

I paint and draw intuitively, so this idea might not work. I draw something out and the painting looks so different than my thoughts.

Birdee (my Africa Gray) is very talkative this morning, asked what I was doing. I wouldn't put it past her if she started her own blog, hmmmm, that's a thought. Cats and dogs do it!

Playing Hard to Get

Went out to the everglades on Friday and took some nice pictures, painting material. Not so much this picture, maybe put her in one of my paintings. Just wanted to post this picture, just because.

She was looking a little lonely

Just looking a little lonely

Like to join the crowd

Playing hard to get

maybe I should forget

about playing hard to get

Maybe I should mingle

Or I will be single

Maybe tomorrow

I'll play hard to get.

Beautiful Day

Friday we had such hot weather, then Saturday the cold front hit, got down in the low 60's. Sunday we went to Hollywood beach, another perfect day. Forgot my camera, next time.
We ate at a little place on the inter coastal, "Le Tub" http://www.theletub.com/ we use to go there all the time, (winter only) the kitchen is maybe 6 X 6, but they turn out some really good food. The decor is stuff the owner has found on the beach over the years.

Question?

Don't even ask. Some will get it and then again some or most won't.
Actually I love doing things like this just to see if anyone notices. Now, my most fun stuff, I like putting different tops on Jerry's woodturnings to see if he notices, he usually does.
To answer a question about the Indian corn photo I posted the other day. Nicky left a comment about the corn, I didn't know, sooooooooo I found out-(see below) The question -
Is Indian Corn edible? Never really thought about this before, I always buy Indian Corn to decorate. The corn is so beautiful that I don't have to do anything else<:)

What Are You Looking At?

Hello!

While the people up north are enjoying the colder weather and the changing of the leaves, I am busy cleaning my patio. It has been too hot to enjoy, won't be long till we're outside eating a good meal. Going to get my kitchen redone, so I will have to get out the George Forman Grill or uncover the Barbee.

This fellow in the picture is not going to like the cold weather. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alligator

Art Show Weekend!

Unpacking from the weekend art show-This was the hottest weekend of my life, in a daze all weekend, then when packing up it started to rain, that put me into ditsy overload. (more than usual) On the way home, of course we missed our exit and had to backtrack, wellllllllllllllll by then I was freezing from being soaked by the rain, luckily I had a jacket in the van. I did get a few stares at the rest stop, 100 degrees and this nut is wearing a jacket. (Oh well, it gave them something to talk about)

The highlight of the weekend were our neighbors, Jeff Eckert, http://jeffeckert.com/ his drawings were wonderful and he was a laugh a minute. My prize- I Traded one of Jerry's pieces for a BEAUTIFUL painting of an old basket, by Joe Krawczy- http://art@krawczykstudio.com/index.html Joe and Sherry were our cattycorner neighbors, at the Winter Park Art Show (Florida) I really don't have any wall space, but the painting is so beautiful, that I will find a place! Sherry, Joe's wife, is a wonderful artist, but was not showing her art at this show, She is a hoot. One wonderful artist was handing out water so we wouldn't pass out, and toward the end of the show, a fellow, all deck out with his kilt skirt on was handing out snacks for the ride home, I think he was from the Smoothie Booth, (or an Angel) Thanks, you made the ride home fingerlicking good. Oh, I almost forgot, how could I, Herbert Hofer, who had our booth as one of his destinations. He also kept us laughing, he made his rounds.
Sherry and I were talking about artist, I mentioned Klimt and Hunterwasser as being some of my favorites.
Started this painting a number of years ago. Keep adding little stuff. Kidda a metamorphose. Can you tell I kidda like Gustav Klimt.
Hundertwasser-
Another one of my favorite artists,
I love Color, shapes, and he avoids theory, he used the senses. I like his flamboyant style, and read that critics went crazy, they thought his art should be logical. Oh well, that's what ya get for thinking!

To be Continued------ http://jersuzstuff.blogspot.com/

I think I can catch him because he doesn't have a fin-He can't stay in there forever-OH WELL, I'LL JUST JUMP IN :)

Beyond the Art Show!

We had an art show this weekend (see his stuff at jersuzstuff.blogspot.com) not a big crowd, think everyone in Florida were at the beach. Jerry won a BLUE RIBBON and sold! Turned out to be a beautiful weekend, and we got out of the yard.

Now have to unpack and repack for next weedends show in Winter Park, Florida.

Sometime I doodle beyond the jounal, this piece is called "Shadows" I remember my teacher in elemetary school let us use a woodburner to make our mothers a mothers day gift. Can you imagine that today.

Cold Front

Thought I would share a little bit of Florida when the cold weather is upon us.

Well, we did have a little cold front come in-it got down to 89. Had to do it, people up north are enjoying the autumn leave, and I am enjoying other bloggers with postings of autumn
